Halloween quilts for the kids

I did get my kids Halloween quilts completed before (ON) Halloween. I really love the way they turned out. This one is Justin's. I didn't quilt much in it -- didn't think it needed it.


This one is Jessi's. The witch in the center was fused by Deb several years ago. We took a mystery class from Charlene Richens, a good quilting friend, SEVERAL years ago at Annual Meeting in SLC. I LOVE the witch, but Deb wasn't too excited about her. I think she is perfect in the middle of the quilt.

When Jim came upstairs in the morning I told him, "I left this quilt out for one night and some spider made webs all over it." I had him going for a minute.

Double Wedding Ring - Esther

I made a queen sized double wedding ring quilt for Esther Chestshire in trade for piano lessons. I am shown below holding up part of it -- it's the only photo of the quilt I have. I gave this to Esther in December of 2005. She intended to give it to her mother for Christmas.
I pieced the top and bound it. Hazel McMullin quilted it on her longarm.

Mary and Jesus - Mom

This was made in Dec of 2007.

The story: my very first year at annual meeting I took a reverse applique class in which we made this Mary and Jesus pattern. I loved it so much that I made one for me and one for a friend - Esther - in trade for piano lessons for my daughters. I also felt that it would be a nice gift for my Mom and Mother-in-law, so I made one for each of them. I really wanted to do it in trapunto - something I'd had limited experience with. I did Lorna's first (can't find a photo) and felt it didn't puff very well because I didn't get the puffs in quite the right places, so I stitches around the puffed areas in a beautiful metalic thread to help highlight the figures. I changed my pattern a little and ended up with this one for Mom.

I also wanted to mention that while making this quilt, I took it on a trip to Vegas where Jim had to drive the bus for the Carbon wrestling team. We took the whole family and had a great time. I used the time on the bus to snip out all the excess batting and even took my machine and quilted it in the motel room.

Monsters - Justin

I also completed this monster quilt in the fall of 2007. My friends first discovered this darling pattern from a state round robin that went around -- we just had to make it. A few months after completing the round robin, some friends and I got together to cut out these babies and fuse them. I cannot belive how much time it took to machine stitch around all the pieces! Anyway, I finally got the blocks out in 2007, sashed them, and wala -- MONSTERS FOR JUSTIN.

He loved to place it on his bed upside down so he could look at the monsters while the quilt covered him in his bed. I think he really liked it.

My favorite part was the quilting in the border. I quilted monsters of all sorts in it.

Race Car Stack N Wack - Justin

This was made in late fall of 2007 for Justin. It is a stack-n-wack with borders around each block. Hazel taught me how to do the borders and I think they really improve the look of the quilt.

Yes, I was pretty hooked on stack-n-wack in those days! It is still fun.
